Bullen accredited Plenipotentiary Representative of US to CARICOM

US Ambassador to Guyana, Roland Bullen, was yesterday accredited as the first US Plenipotentiary Representative to CARICOM at a presentation of credentials ceremony at the Caribbean Community Secretariat in Georgetown. CARICOM Secretary-General Edwin Carrington congratulated Ambassador Bullen on this additional appointment and noted that a number of initiatives would form part of the full agenda designed to enhance cooperation between the USA and the Caribbean Community in the diplomatic, security, environmental, health and education arenas. Carrington, observing that the interdependence between the USA and the Caribbean region had been recognised already, alluded to the importance of such upcoming meetings as the Third Border Initiative, and the second CARICOM/US Consultation on HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, the US Ambassador said that as countries of CARICOM work towards greater regional, hemispheric and global integration and cooperation, it is essential that the US work directly with the CARICOM Secretariat. The ambassador also underscored that the region must work closely with the US to confront such international threats as terrorism and narcotics trafficking.
