Demerara Bank Limited officially launched its ebanking services on Monday with the pledge that it will make banking easier.

Chairman Yesu Persaud, at the evening cocktail hosted at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, said the service was a 'first' for the local banking sector and "it makes banking easier." He told the gathering that there is no need for them to keep money at home and persuaded them to "rely on the bank…especially Demerara Bank."

Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh, in his remarks, said the launching of this service "is a very special event of national significance" and it is a great credit to the Demerara Bank Board, management and staff.

Ebanking is a familiar and preferred commercial banking service outside Guyana and Singh urged the public and private sector to use the service in its production and delivery of services. The sector, he said, has over the years offered a range of new services including debit and credit cards along with local access to accounts of international credit cards like Visa, American Express and MasterCard.

During the cocktail Demerara Bank customers had the opportunity to sign on to the new service. Customers who make contact with the bank will be given access to the website www.ebanking.demerarabank.com and will be given an initial password, which the customer will then change to secure their transactions. In accessing their accounts customers can view their balances and activities up to the last 45 days; pay their phone and electricity bills; request bank drafts; do inter-account transfers; request certified statements; order cheques; request address changes and make stop payment requests. Customers will also be advised about safe ways to use the ebanking service.
