Supriya Singh

Supriya Singh has resigned from the executive of the main opposition party, PNCR.

Singh, who served as the head of the party's communication department, gave in her resignation earlier this month. In the resignation letter to PNCR Leader Robert Corbin, dated April 2, 2007, she stated: "It is with regret that I write to inform you of my decision to resign from the Central Executive Committee of the party and remove myself from membership."

Singh told Stabroek News that her decision was due to the amount of time she was spending outside of Guyana as a result of her work commitments. She is an interior designer.

She said resigning was the right thing to do, since to continue her tenure would be unfair to people who selected her to represent their interests. "It cannot be helped at this point in time, and I take seriously my commitment to representing the people and their interests," she explained.

Singh said her relationship with the party and leader Corbin remains cordial.
