Easter is highly regarded as a Christian religious occasion to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And on Easter Monday a wide cross-section of Guyanese gather at the seawalls, parks and other open areas for kite flying, picnicking and liming.

Head of State President Bharrat Jagdeo after enjoying the final match of the Cricket World Cup super eight game played at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence yesterday joined families, friends and others out in the National Park celebrating the day with merriment and the traditional kite- flying activities.

The President, during his walkabout, interacted with many children hoisting kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours, families picnicking, and even those out for a stroll in the park.

The Head of State then stepped over to the seawall by Carifesta Avenue to mingle with others out for the holiday goings-on.

President Bharrat Jagdeo on April 8 brought smiles to the faces of over 200 youths from West End ‘Tiger Bay’, Georgetown and Good Hope, East Coast Demerara when he presented them with kites.
