The Bank of Guyana yesterday said that on Monday it will release a commemorative coin to mark the opening of the cricket stadium at Providence.

In a press release, the bank said the construction of the multi-purpose stadium, the first of its kind in Guyana, is a significant achievement for the country. The facility represents a commitment to sport which the bank said informed its decision to issue a commemorative coin.

The bank said the coin has a face value of $2000 and is a silver proof struck in .925 silver. It bears the Coat of Arms on the obverse side and a raised image of the stadium on the reverse. The coin is set in a blue velvet case and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Royal Mint, United Kingdom. An image of the coin can be viewed at www.bankofguyana.org.gy/ stadiumcoin.

The bank said only a limited number of the coins have been minted and they will be available for sale at $6000 each.
