Internationally recognized credit and debit cards can now be used in Guyana with the introduction of "full" international connectivity for the cards by Scotiabank at its ATMs.

However, all cash will be issued in Guyana dollars only.

A Scotiabank press release stated that among the cards that can now be used here are MasterCard and related CIRRUS cards and Visa and related PLUS and Maestro cards which can be used at all the bank's ABMs. CIRRUS and PLUS brands account for the majority of available, internationally recognized credit and debit card products.

Additionally, the bank is aggressively increasing its network of merchants who accept international credit and debit cards. "These initiatives are of particular value to the tourism and business sectors to cater for the influx of expected tourists, especially in light of Guyana hosting the ICC CWC 2007," the release stated.
