Roraima Bikers remembers George Cumberbatch with race programme

Roraima Bikers Club will stage a four-race cycling programme in honour of the late former national cyclist and administrator George “Boy Blue” Cumberbatch.

The event is fixed for tomorrow at the National Park Circuit starting at 09:00 hours. The highlight tomorrow's George Cumberbatch Memorial programme will be an Open 30-lap race that will feature most of the nation's top cyclists. Among those expected to face the starter are Warren McKay, John Charles, Darren Allen, Junior Niles, Alonzo Greaves, Leer Nunes and Shane Boodram.

There will also be three 10-lap events for category One and Two riders, categories Three and Four and a classic for Juniors, Juveniles and 12-14 year old cyclists. Cash prizes sponsored by businessman George Humphrey and former national cyclist Clifford Johnson will be up for grabs for all the events along with 12 Prime point prizes for the feature 30-lap race.

The late Cumberbatch dominated the local and regional cycling scene in the 1960s and at the time of his death was a vice president of the Roraima Bikers Club.

Brian Allen, President of Roraima Bikers Club said Cumberbatch was an outstanding cyclist and administrator and tomorrow's event in a fitting tribute to the late rider.
