THE Laparkan Group of Companies has announced that it will be shipping an estimated two hundred 40-foot containers of personal effects boxes monthly from the United States to the Dominican Republic, marking a significant breakthrough into that country’s large Hispanic market.

A statement yesterday from the Marketing Department of the Laparkan office in Guyana, said the breakthrough was formalised during a signing ceremony last Tuesday between the Director General of the Instituto Postal Dominicano (IMPOSDOM) Dr. Modesto Guzman and Chairman & CEO of Laparkan, Mr. Glen Khan, to collaborate on shipments of personal effects boxes from the United States to the Dominican Republic.

In a related meeting, the company said the Director General of Customs in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Miguel Cocco, endorsed this alliance and guaranteed that there will be no customs duties charged on personal effects items.

It said the clearance process will be expedited in order that a door-to-door service from a U.S. shipper to their families in the Dominican Republic (DR) can be effected within a maximum twenty-two days.

“It is anticipated that two hundred 40-foot containers will be shipped per month under this programme, which will represent the equivalent of approximately one million cartons of personal effects to families in the Dominican Republic,” Laparkan said.

It is further anticipated that this relationship will be followed up to collaborate on the company’s Money Transfer, Internet Shopping and Private Mail Box (PMB).

The company said this agreement will be particularly beneficial to more than one million Dominican Republic immigrant population resident in New York, New Jersey, Boston and Miami where Laparkan has multiple offices.

The company said IMPOSDOM serves all cities and rural communities with direct service to their door daily, making this an attractive opportunity.

IMPOSDOM started as the Dominican Republic Postal service on September 20 in 1865 by order of decree no. 878 of the General President Jose Maria Cabral who created the Postal Authority, with its first stamp on October 18 of that same year.

In 1958 the Executive Regime created a sub-law no. 307 of November 15, 1985 instituting the Postal Institution of the Dominican Republic as a decentralised entity.

It offers services in the collection and dispatch of mail, small parcels, printed matter, issuance of mailboxes, special delivery, registered mail, declared values, express mail service, stamping machines and monetary postal wires.
