CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Local Organising Committee (LOC) Karan Singh has strongly refuted suggestions that no cricket would be played in Guyana.

Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle from the Guyana National Stadium at Providence last evening, he said all the Cricket World Cup (CWC) officials were at the venue and no one mentioned anything about the matches being aborted for any reason.

“If there was anything wrong, I would be the one they would tell. I was here (at the Providence Stadium) all day.”

Despite rains yesterday, Singh said there was no problem with the ground or pitch, and everyone involved was now preparing for the first ball tomorrow.

Singh appealed for an end to circulating negative stories.

“There is absolutely no truth in those statements. They’re destroying the morale of the Guyanese people. Their negative agenda is not consistent with the celebration of cricket in Guyana.”

Singh said he was confident that Guyana would stage a successful Super 8 round.

“We’ll show those negative people we will have top class cricket here.”

A visiting journalist from Trinidad & Tobago was impressed with the Providence Stadium and was amazed that the ground showed no evidence of the pouring rain.
