US$ still selling at 205

The selling rate of the United States dollar remains at $205.

Yesterday, the selling rate at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) was $204.50 and there was a similar rate for non-cash instruments like bank drafts.

Republic Bank (Guyana) Ltd sold the US dollar for $205 and non-cash instruments were on offer from $206 and for as high as $208 depending on the amount. Citizen Bank Guyana Inc also had a selling rate of $204 for the US dollar and bank drafts for $204.50 depending on the amount. Yesterday, Demerara Bank noted that its selling price for the US dollar was $205 but had no notes for sale. However, its bank draft services ranged from $206.75 to $207 depending on the amount.

The US dollar was also selling for $205 at Martina's Cambio and Boutique at Hinck Street; for $205 at Swiss House Cambio on Water Street and cambios on Regent Street also had a $205 selling rate.

It is expected that the US dollar will continue to sell at around $205 leading up to the Cricket World Cup in March to April 2007, as a result of the large- scale preparation for the games such as the construction of hotels and the Berbice bridge.
