Volunteers for Cricket World Cup 2007 would be performing a number of roles, including manning the information kiosks, ensuring that people enter the stadium through the correct gates and assisting security personnel with queue busting.

The work of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) CWC volunteers was highlighted in a release as the world marked International Volunteers' Day.

Guyana LOC Volunteer Coordinator Sabrina Panday in a message to mark the day urged Guyanese to appreciate the numerous man hours and skills thousands of volunteers across the globe give.

The volunteers of ICC CWC 2007 VIBES, she said, would have an opportunity to contribute to an event that would showcase Guyana. "We know that volunteers play a significant role in the visitor's experience," she said adding that the interaction and exposure would help in building relations for a lifetime.

The statement noted that cricket fans coming to Guyana for next year's ICC CWC 2007 Super Eight matches could expect positive 'VIBES' from the 350 local volunteers who are working to ensure Guyana is successful at hosting the event and showcasing to the world the country's hospitality.

VIBES is the acronym by which the volunteers are being promoted - volunteers who are intelligent, inspirational, bright, bold, enthusiastic and spectacular.

The volunteers would assist with the running of the information kiosks on match days; assist the Public Relations Director with all duties regarding VIP needs; would be responsible for ensuring that people enter through the correct gates and will assist the security personnel with queue busting.

The volunteers would also assist with queries and directing spectators to their seats in the stadium; directing traffic in the parking areas but would not be responsible for security of vehicles; would assist the media management team in researching and providing information and otherwise assist the world's media covering the event; would assist with the accreditation process prior to and during the event, operating computers, issuing accreditation passes and dealing with official CWC 2007 personnel; and would assist with administration in the Venue Operation Centre.
