Things had been relatively quiet on the local fashion show circuit for the last few months if you subtract the Carifesta preview show held at Red House in September now Sonia Noel, Michelle Cole/Trevor Rose and Olympia Small-Sonaram are unveiling their must-see collections a few days apart and on the heels of a similar extravaganza by Donna Ramsammy-James.

It is a pretty exciting time because these are designers who have changed the way people in Guyana view fashion but to hold so many fashion shows with very little time for people to breathe in between them is not that thrilling.

How do persons who love fashion and admire the work of all the designers make a decision?

With the exception of Donna Ramsammy-James, whose Focus collection viewing was by invitation only and therefore catered for a select audience, these designers are not handing out complimentary tickets on a wide scale. Tickets are all above $1,500.

Each designer has a target audience but their designs have cross-over appeal and there is a considerable number of people who support them all. Maybe there is something about going up against each other that appeal to them or their public relations people.

First up is Sonia Noel. Since moving to Barbados over a year ago she has matured as a designer and has stamped her authority as one of the Caribbean's best. She keeps popping up every where something 'hot and happening' is featured in the Caribbean. Now she is home with Style on the Green.

But is everyone seeing green? Though when it comes to Sonia there is really no question of missing. Her shows are always beautifully executed and the hottest male models are always in her camp. Since she has been away for so long the trip to Cara Lodge later this evening might just be worth making.

Then there are Facts 'N Roses. The mere mention of the names Michelle Cole and Trevor Rose and you already feel the need to be at whatever is happening that includes them. What is actually happening is the unveiling of the Contrast Collection which is the first collaborative effort by Cole and Rose.

Michelle Cole has re-defined fashion in Guyana. She has a way of designing one outfit that just takes your breath away and makes it very difficult to place any other piece of clothing you see after that above it. Why would anyone want to miss her show?

As for Trevor Rose, his work over the last few years speaks for itself. His creative ability sets him apart and

this is going to be his premiere launch into fashion designing. He has done work before yeah but this new collection is big for him. Together Michelle and Trevor are a hit and to miss them at Thirst Park on November 25 would be a crime in our books.

Last but certainly not least is Olympia. Two words: hot and hotter. There is no telling what to expect when you go to one of her shows and she never disappoints. Olympia identifies with sexy and her designs are usually provocative and really daring. The last showing she did was so jaw-dropping it still comes up in discussions.

She is unveiling the Red, Bold and Jazzy collection. This time around though Olympia is mixing things up and going for sexy as well as elegant. She will also incorporate body paint into the upcoming show. One thing that Olympia cannot be accused of is putting on a flat show. She packs excitement and the audience always leaves wanting more. This alone is reason enough for persons to be at her shown on November 26 at Emba-Sea Courtyard.

Beginning tomorrow fashion fanatics out there will have to decide. It is going to be Sonia, Michelle and Trevor or Olympia? Maybe some persons out there can afford all three or they are fortunate like us at The Scene. We will be fashion show hopping from tomorrow. thestabroekscene@yahoo.com
