The stands of the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC), Linden spilled over last Saturday in what was a night of variety, colour and cultural blends including free lollipops for the ladies at the 'Lollipop Show'.

The event, which featured Trinidadian chutney artiste Vedesh Sookoo popular for his tracks, "Dhal Belly Indian" and "Lollipop" (hence the name Lollipop show) got off the ground at 10.30 pm as the crowd started to pack the venue. Mingles took the stage and started things rolling with several reggae, dancehall, soca and hip-hop selections. At one point during the Mingles set a 'bigger and better' woman and her friend chose to demonstrate how to wine as the band played on stage, livening up the atmosphere.

MC Gordon Moseley and co-host Shereen then introduced the X Factor male contingent who wowed the ladies with outrageous passa passa moves. Tarana Dance Troupe entertained with a dance of swirling colour in true Hindustani fashion.

At 11.30 came the steamy swimwear of Olympia Small-Sonaram with a number of pretty women strutting their stuff. The males at this point woke up and stormed the stage front with cameras, all thanks to the scientist who put a camera in a phone.

The Tarana dancers then returned to the stage, before the X Factor dancers thrilled the crowd again with a mad male-female passa passa dance combo.

A segment of the sexy beachwear designed by Michelle Cole was then displayed, featuring a number of leggy beauties. Her segment saw the girls sporting stripped coloured stockings, which added some creativity to the presentation.

Out of this act the show flowed into a dance competition between a dancer from X Factor and a Linden youth, who the MC referred to as 'Wacky 1'. The competition was virtually a Linden versus GT thing and 'Wacky 1' who was clearly more creative, won.

The featured artistes of the live show hit the stage at 12.25 am, as Fojo came forward to do a few tracks for the ladies. He then invited on stage Little African and the two of them got the ladies at stage front excited. Platinum Mob including Young Fame, Genovesce (pronounced je-no-vee-see), and IQ followed in hip-hop style doing "In the Club" an original selection. IQ took the mike and rocked MSC with a track called "Dream World". The studio mates then worked a variety of combinations with Fojo, African and Fame doing a track "Get Shorty" a hip-hop track done on a dancehall rhythm that particular night. Fojo and African then closed their set.

After an energetic segment controlled by Mingles the Lollipop man himself, Sookoo climbed on stage at close to 2 am with "Dhal Belly Indian" that saw the crowd screaming for more. He followed this up with a lesser known single before launching into "Lollipop". Sookoo kept the crowd singing along.

In Linden it seems the party does not stop because Mingles continued rolling out the hits after Sookoo had left the stage to loud applause. A large section of the crowd remained in the ground to party on even after the band quit allowing Green Downs and the Fusion audio to spin the 'hypest' discs until early in the morning. basstone@lycos.com
