Some of the girls are jealous because she did the Alicia Keys remix to "Ghetto Story" with Baby Cham two Sundays ago while the guys are awestruck at the latest diva to hit the scene, the quiet but not shy Celeste David.

Celeste said her performance and the reaction of the fans have given her more encouragement to continue along the path to success. "Honestly, I think it (the performance with Cham) made me feel really good that night I felt as if I'm going somewhere it was an amazing performance, persons said I sounded like Alicia but I didn't even realize. It was not like I tried singing like her that's just me... It was really good what the crowd did, they made me feel really good it made me feel like I can go on and on."

At her coming out party, the Baby Cham show, the young songstress in addition to doing her new song and her first release "Back it Up" broke new ground for herself and Guyanese artistes by teaming up with the feature artiste himself. Intuitively Celeste's marketing agent Cody Ruff Kut advised that she sharpen up on Keys lyrics in the song because anything could happen. "I didn't really know if I was going to sing with him (Cham) or not they just asked me to learn the song in case that happens," she told The Scene.

Though she has not yet inked a deal Celeste is doing the right thing, which is keeping her dream alive of making it big in the competitive entertainment business. She says, "Hopefully that is going to happen [a recording deal], my dream is to become a successful singer and I'm working toward that."

One just has to look at the new video for her first single "Back It Up", which was launched on that day as well, and it is clear this hot 20-year-old is out to make a bold statement. The song and video though steamy are described by Celeste as an expression of dance. "I just want everyone to know it's not what you might think, it's just a dance."

As one of the new entrants to Guyana's re-emerging entertainment scene Celeste is already showing the right interest in the end product playing an instrumental part in the making of her video. "The concept came from myself and camera guy Rudy Charles," she said calmly.

The video features several dancers, sexy fashion and thunderous motorcycles. Celeste admits she is an admirer of bikes and this is why they were included. "I like bikes that's why I put them into the video," she said adding, "with a little more training," she'll be able to rev out one of those machines.

Apart from her new video Celeste has other things in the works including a new single, "Had Enough". It is a song with a message of revolt against existing social double standards. It takes a look at, "relationships with men and women...men cheating on women, treating them bad, expecting them to do everything cook, clean, look after the kids, plus him too and on the other hand what they want to do is to cheat, play and come home late."

She rails against such behaviour singing:

Ladies come around and let me tell you this/It's a story you can't afford to miss/ Sit back relax this is it now/ It's our men cause they put rings on our fingers/ They claim they are fathers/ Do this do that no thanks/ But it all comes down to you and I what we going to do/ Take it leave it change this affair/

Keeping it real/ That's the way how we do it/That's right/Don't sit around and let him do it/ It's not fine/ Keep your heads up we had enough

She said "Had Enough" should have been on the air since last week but unfortunately it's not out yet. There is a little bit of music to be done on the song so hopefully by this weekend it should be out, she told The Scene.

The diva revealed that she does all her work at the Kingdom Friends studio with her producer Danley Major and she is not planning on breaking that partnership at least, "not for now he is my producer so I'm going to work with him."

So how does the freshest addition to GT's entertainers come up with her songs, "Well my song 'Back it Up' I inspired myself to write that song cause I'm a dancer and a singer and the song is a dance nothing else and I chose to do that because I can put it all to together and make something out of it."

"Had Enough" emerged as a manifestation of her observance of world trends with regard to the way women are dealt with in their relations with men. "The song 'Had Enough' is happening right now around the world so I thought I should put it into a song and let the women know that the time is up for men to stop doing that."

Attitude upbeat Celeste is unfazed by the moves being made by her Guyanese contemporary artistes in terms of public appearances and such like. "I'm now coming out and people are getting to hear about me plus the video is coming out, they are going to see who I am. Then I guess bookings are going to be really tight."
