Mrs South America, Carolan Lynch, was granted $500,000 bail yesterday after her lawyers made a successful petition for bail in the High Court.

Justice Jainarayan Singh Jr released Lynch after attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes approached the court seeking pre-trial liberty for his client. Hughes told the judge Lynch knew nothing of the gun and ammunition find at her 106 Ireng Place, Bel Air Park home on Friday last.

He said too that the beauty queen's husband, Farouk Razac who was jointly charged with her had been granted bail when he appeared in the Magistrate's Court on Monday while she was remanded on Tuesday.

The state did not object to bail being granted. Lynch who is facing firearm and ammunition charges will return to the Magistrate's Court on November 20.

Shortly after police arrested Razac and Lynch, the beauty queen took ill and was briefly hospitalized. She missed her Monday court day but was taken before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on Tuesday and was refused bail.
