City Hall has appointed Rufus Lewis co-ordinator of the Enhancement Programme for Georgetown for Cricket World Cup 2007.

A press release from the Georgetown Enhancement Secretariat said Lewis, former head at the Solid Waste Management Department, will be working with a private sector group headed by Chris Fernandes; to plan the upgrading of the downtown commercial areas; from Church Street to Hadfield Street and from Avenue of the Republic to Water Street.

Yesterday Lewis was to meet with the management of the New Building Society seeking assistance on a number of tasks including adopting the garden located west of the National Museum, refurbishing the metal fence at the Non-Aligned Monument, whitewashing trees and cleaning the canal between Regent and Croal streets.

These activities are intended to complement the city's drainage works and exercises to restore the five major avenues between Main Street and East Street.

Lewis' office will be based at the former Chest Clinic at South Road and Orange Walk. He can be contacted at any of City Hall's telephone numbers, at cell number 624-6504 or at email address rufusalewis@yahoo.com
