Some women got the most unforgettable Christmas present when they went into labour and gave birth on Christmas Day.

Ten babies, seven boys and three girls, were born at various times on Christmas Day in the Maternity Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

At the Woodlands Hospital one baby was born, and another at the Davis Memorial Hospital.

Some of the proud mothers at Georgetown Public Hospital expressed surprise and happiness at the arrival of their bundles of joy.

One mother, Malika Garnett, who was admitted to the hospital early on the morning of December 24, said that she never expected to have her first baby on Christmas Day.

Her baby was also the first of the ten born on Christmas Day; she gave birth to the healthy baby girl at 00:03hrs.

The parents of another Christmas baby, Wayne and Rafeena Ibrahim, were all smiles yesterday.

Rafeena recalled the experience of her first child as very painful, but in the end it was worth it.

“It is the perfect Christmas gift,” Wayne said.

Dexter Philadelphia and Stacey James are also among the few who can claim to have received the best Christmas gift.

Dexter said he was at work when he got the message that his wife was in labour, and he was later overjoyed to learn that she had given birth to a baby boy.

Nathifa December was rushed to the hospital after lunch on Christmas Day, where she gave birth to her second child approximately two hours after she was admitted.

“I had no idea it would have been on Christmas Day. It was supposed to be early next year but I'm happy,” she said.

Shonette Wilson's baby boy was delivered during the lunch hour on Christmas Day.

“I felt nice at first but then there was a lot of pain before and during the delivery process, but it was worth it.”

At the Woodlands Hospital, Rui Qiung Sui was the only woman there who gave birth on Christmas Day. The baby was born at around 10:55 hours.

At the Davis Memorial Hospital, Marcia Patterson, the proprietrix of Cool Square, was happy to have her baby on Christmas Day.

“My husband feels better than me though. He was constantly saying he wanted a Christmas baby,” she said.

Delighted to have given her husband a son for Christmas, she named her baby D'Andre Patterson after his father, Andre Patterson.
