President Bharrat Jagdeo's Christmas message

On behalf of the government and on my own personal behalf, I extend Christmas greetings to all Guyanese.

May the star of Christmas guide us all along surer and more secure paths during this holiday season!

May you all find at this time, peace, contentment, and hope, the poignant messages of Christmas.

To the Christian community, I extend special wishes for a holy and joyous Christmas.

I have always been captivated by the nativity with its themes of humility, duty, faith and hope.

The Christmas Story reminds us that God had a special role for the ordinary and humble in his mission here on earth.

The wonderful story of the birth of Jesus Christ is one that should make us all feel good about ourselves and towards one another, no matter what our station in life.

Let us, over the holidays and beyond, show in word and deed that common humanity engraved in our hearts.

May the goodwill so evident at time fill the empty spaces, especially for those who at this time are needy, sick, lonely, bereaved or enduring unfortunate circumstances.

I urge all Guyanese to reach out, as they have been doing over the years, to the unfortunate and to shower them with love and kindness at this time.

I take this opportunity to welcome to Guyana , all those who are visiting us for the holidays, especially those Guyanese who have come to reunite with friends and families.

I welcome all of you to Guyana and hope that your stay would be thoroughly enjoyable.

Seasons Greetings are also extended to the Guyanese Diaspora. Please be assured that at this time you are not forgotten. We appreciate and value you as members of the Guyanese community. May the season bring you all happiness!

Merry Christmas to all!

PNCR Christmas message

Fellow Guyanese and all our friends who are visiting Guyana during this holiday season, it's Christmas time again!

Christmas is indeed a time for giving, for sharing and for expressing goodwill to our fellow men.

While it is of Christian origin, its message is universal and can be embraced by people of all faiths.

It is my sincere hope that all Guyanese reflect on the true meaning of this season that is centered on the Divine Birth of Jesus the Christ, who brought hope to mankind everywhere.

Let us, therefore, use this period to rekindle and strengthen the foundation of the Guyanese family and that as a people, we demonstrate in practical ways goodwill towards each other.

The year 2006 was a very challenging one for all Guyanese; it was a year of crucial decision-making in the midst of great tension.

Notwithstanding disappointment and in some cases provocation, the exemplary response of the people confounded the prophets of doom and we have survived as a people to celebrate another Christmas.

Let me therefore use this opportunity to once again thank all Guyanese, but particularly our supporters everywhere, for their steadfastness and commitment.

As we celebrate this Christmas season with our families in true Guyanese tradition, eating our pepperpot and drinking our ginger beer, please find the time to think of those who are less fortunate in our society, such as the homeless and destitute, the senior citizens who find it difficult to live on their pensions, the orphans and other needy children, also the disadvantaged and the sick, especially those who are afflicted with the deadly HIV/AIDS disease.

Let us not forget those who have jobs but still find it difficult to make ends meet because of meagre incomes.

Let each of us pledge that in some small way we will do something to bring happiness to them at this time.

I believe that in so doing, we will be demonstrating that we understand the true meaning of this season.

May I also take this opportunity to wish all those who celebrate the festival of Kwanza, a HAPPY KWANZA .

May we use this opportunity to reflect on the seven principles of this observance which are Unity, Self Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Co-operative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith.

I also wish to bid a special welcome to all Guyanese and friends of Guyana who have come home at this time to experience a true Guyanese Christmas and to reunite with your families and friends.

May you enjoy this season in beautiful Guyana and leave with renewed hope for the future of our dear beloved country.

On behalf of my family, my Party and on my own behalf, I extend best wishes to all of you for a very Merry Christmas.

May God richly bless you and may you also enjoy continuous health and happiness throughout the New Year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Guyana Justices of Peace Association Christmas message

The Guyana Justices of Peace Association cheerfully sends cherished greetings and best wishes to all for the season.

Yuletide reminds mankind of hope for a better world. While it is a time of great expectation, it is also a time for serious reflection over the past year. The success we have achieved is measured in terms of the material gains we have been able to make by worthy means.

Our lives should have been a beacon to others, especially the less fortunate. Our children are our precious jewels. Let us add some sparkle to their lives this Christmas in reaching out to them, to the orphanages and charity homes.

Let us embrace love, peace, compassion, and respect for others, our national symbols and institutions. Let us unite for the common good of all.

Let us celebrate Christmas in the true Guyanese tradition.

Christmas message from GPSU President

I wish to take this opportunity to extend season's greetings to the members of the Guyana Public Service Union, and friends, well-wishers and the general public with the hope that you enjoy the holidays.

2006 was a year of opportunity and potential, over which I have no doubt that fair-minded Guyanese would express disappointment, by the levels of the leadership exhibited by all sections of the population.

There is no discernable improvement in the quality of life and the welfare of citizens. Security continues to be a major problem and criminals appear to have complete freedom to do as they wish without fear of being caught and convicted, while innocent people are being harassed, victimised and abused by the criminals and by elements of those who are charged with this protection.

In such circumstances, one would expect that our Government would be concerned and act responsibly for the security of its Guyanese citizens, but this is patently not so in Guyana, where those in authority and control of the machinations of the Government indulge in the unacceptable attitude of blaming others for their shortcomings.

Further, in conflict with the mandate entrusted by the people of Guyana , the government has engaged in unenlightened political maneuvering, which is evident in the use of state funds.

A more recent example is the case where the military was paid bonuses in both 2005 and 2006 in addition to their normal salary increases.

These payments, though considered deserving, were viewed as manipulative and divisive, since other Government services received no bonuses regardless of their outstanding performance.

Such examples include the Guyana Revenue Authority which surpassed its target by billions of dollars —in 2004, $3.764 billion, and in 2005 $4.363 billion. Health Care workers cope with increase in workload and are faced with acute staff shortages.

I wish to admonish you to carefully consider these matters and their consequences for the society at large during the course for your enjoyment and your likely contributions to their solutions.

I hope that by the next season there would be some notable change in the situation, the observance of good governance and Guyana would once again return to the desired state

of peace and tranquility as we strive for national unity.

Happy Holidays!

Alliance For Change Christmas Message

The Alliance For Change wishes Guyanese at home and abroad, and especially members of the Christian community, a joyous Christmas.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God. This is the season when we focus on the child in our midst and on the family that nurtures that child. Let us resolve to be particularly caring of our nation's most precious resource: its children and young people.

Christmas is also the time to be happy; a time of joy and of mirth. A time of cleaning up, painting up, dressing-up, lighting-up, the playing of music, dancing and the eating of seasonal favourites like pepperpot, black cake and the drinking of ginger beer.

As we celebrate this season of giving with our families it is important that we reflect on those less fortunate in our society, for Christmas is for sharing and for expressing good will to our fellow men. In the universal spirit of Christmas, we wish that all Guyanese would use this time to renew and strengthen the foundation of the Guyanese family and that as a people we demonstrate in practical ways, goodwill towards each other and resolve to make Guyana a land of which we can be proud.

The Alliance For Change bids a special welcome to all Guyanese who have come home to reunite with their families and friends at this time to experience a true Guyanese Christmas. Because the goodwill of those we serve is the foundation of our success, it gives us joy at this holiday time to also say “Thank You”. As we enter into 2007 we wish you and your loved ones peace, happiness and prosperity.

A Merry Christmas to all Guyanese.
