Rhonda Gomes, the woman who was nabbed with a quantity of cocaine, guns and ammunition at a North Ruimveldt property early last month, yesterday pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Lot 3009 North Ruimveldt resident was charged for possession of 10 kg 909 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

She was also charged for unlawful possession of an AK-47 rifle, a Chinese automatic assault rifle, three fragmentation grenades and a concussion grenade.

Gomes was also charged for unlawful possession of 1,192 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ammunition (used in the AK-47); 77 rounds of .38 special ammunition; 245 rounds 9mm ammunition; 20 rounds of .380 ammunition; 14 rounds .30 ammo; 35 rounds of .32 ammunition; forty-seven 12-gauge cartridges; and one round each of .38 and .22 ammunition.

Three weeks after being on remand, the 24-year-old woman took full responsibility for the items when she appeared before Magistrate Octave Hamilton.

She will be sentenced on Monday.

The weapons, ammunition and cocaine were found in the lower flat of the North Ruimveldt property, which was occupied by Gomes.

Yesterday, Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes told the court that his client and her mother's lives have been threatened.

Hughes noted that Gomes and her fiancé, who is in the interior, resided at the premises.

He said that his client was not aware that the person with whom she shares the flat is involved in unlawful activities.

Gomes was arrested November 10 after police, acting on information, swooped down on the home and unearthed the weapons and ammunition along with the cocaine which has a street value of more than US$400,000.

She appeared before Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys on November 10 and was charged for trafficking in narcotics, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The case will continue on Monday.
