Honesty needed, not this outrageous propaganda The Alliance For Change Column

The hardliners within the hierarchy of the PPP, who largely mould that Party, have been well trained in creating and directing propaganda far removed from truth and reality. This they do to destroy existing and nascent opposition from within and without. Their further purposes include diverting attention away from biting critiques as to their ineptitude and corruption; and, the attenuation of the effects of their disgusting hypocrisy and double-standards.

These days they are in record-breaking form. The Marxian dialectic, that useful tool of social analysis which they claim is close to their chest, has been malignantly transformed into what should be known from now on as the Ramotarian dialectic. This variety, as argued recently, shrouds out reason and truth for the grander glorification of the Party and its leaders.

The AFC wishes to warn them about this development in our politics. It is extremely shortsighted not to see the historical limits of this organised deception which sooner or later will be exposed. It was the exact thing that the PNC proclaimed and lived in an earlier era. Their leaders were inevitably exposed, and the PNC will suffer for it for a long time to come.

Some recent examples of this mashing-up of truth and reality include the response to Transparency International's low ranking of Guyana . What is Ramotar's response? Effectively it is that this is all wrong and subjective sentiments of people who dislike the PPP Government!

So Guyanese must disbelieve the reality of corruption which thrive around them everyday at all levels; they must disbelieve Transparency International; and, yes, believe Ramotar and the PPP.

Inherent in this approach is the danger of not addressing this serious issue of corruption because those who must address it are of the opinion that Transparency International is lying on poor Guyana .

Another instance of this reaction arose when it became known that refugee status had been granted to a Guyanese by the Canadian authorities. The response of Ramotar was, effectively, that the Canadian Government committed a wrong in such a grant. Why? Because the serious allegations against the State of Guyana made by the applicant were believed. Additionally, he bemoans the fact that the Government of Guyana could not respond. Well, what would have been the response, if given an opportunity? It would have been a total denial, typical of the communists of a different era, and ad hominem attacks on the applicant and his lawyer, typical of communists of that bygone era.

The PPP and its leaders should pay attention to the fact that many Guyanese are applying for refugee status to get away from this country. And many are being granted. My information reveals that out of a number of 386 applicants emanating from Guyana , 67 were granted such status recently. The tribunal making these determinations could hardly be said to possess any anti-PPP prejudices.

In these circumstances, Ramotar and others should start listening to the voices of these applicants, rather than their own. They will come to realise the stench and horror some Guyanese experience, and from which these Guyanese want to exile themselves.

Yet another example is the VAT. Promises by PPP Parliamentarians in the Select Committee, and even in the press, were to the effect that food items will be zero-rated in sufficient time before the tax is implemented. We were told that Guyanese should rest assured that the cost of living will not increase as a result. It is less than six weeks to go, and not a single food item has been zero-rated.

What we should be rest assured of is that cost of living will most definitely go up. Astronomically! But you will get the statisticians in the PPP going to work to prove that it did not, with all kinds of manufactured and fabricated figures. When this propaganda is countered by sensible and rational members of our community, they will be viciously attacked and embarrassed, ( a la Mike Corriea at launch of Guy Expo ‘06), by even as high a PPP personage as the President!

This final example of their propagandising machinations, which has as the purpose the destruction of any up and coming opposition, touches me somewhat personally. Ramotar and his PYO sidekick R. Harsaywack are on a mission to denigrate and degut confidence at the personal level, by exposing that only four votes were obtained by the AFC in my home village.

Indeed, the support on Election Day was disappointing for me and the AFC in these areas. However, there was no need, Ramotar, to go these lengths to give wrong figures to persuade the public to see me as de minimis and without political worth. The fact is that notwithstanding all the racist propaganda disseminated at bottom-houses on DVDs showing the Great Pretender advert, the Sash Sawh killing, the Kaieteur News employees killing and with a concluding remark that a vote for the AFC is a vote for the PNC, notwithstanding directing Nagamootoo to “wuk-up” the nemakharam poison which he unfortunately did, my home village still did better than four. It was 35, not 4; and this you very well know. This in a village of approximately 160 voters, all of whom in previous Elections would have voted PPP. So start concerning yourself with the percentage loss. Maybe that is the threat from the AFC which caused you to lie about such a simple matter.

Many from these areas who swallowed the PPP's propaganda hook, line and sinker want to know why you and the other PPP leaders immediately afterwards start working out “arrangements” and making deals with the PNC. Try explaining this instead, rather than how many votes Ramjattan managed to procure at No. 47 Village. As I said before, organised deception will sooner or later be exposed. Be prepared for such exposure.
