THE distribution of the government’s Old Age pension vouchers is moving satisfactorily countrywide with more than 58 per cent of the documents already distributed, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported yesterday.

The successful process so far has been credited to the new measures introduced by the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security, the agency said.

A computer database from which a preliminary list of pensioners was extracted, it said, has greatly advanced the efficiency of the preparatory process for the pension book distribution.

Copies of the list were placed at strategic points to allow pensioners to make corrections to personal data where necessary.

The distribution of the 2007 old age pension books started in early November and staff of the ministry are distributing the books in several communities along the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, GINA reported.

Chief Probation and Social Services Officer, Ms. Patricia Gray explained that the new measures have proven very beneficial to the pensioners and easier for the ministry’s staff.

In order to ensure a transparent and accountable process, GINA said, the ministry is networking with other government ministries for timely distribution of the books.

According to Assistant Chief Probation and Social Services Officer, Mr. Dindyal Singh, the ministries have responded favourably to this request.

GINA said Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Ms. Carolyn Rodrigues, is assisting in the distribution process in Region Nine (Upper Takutu /Upper Essequibo).

The following schedule, it said, details distribution in the upcoming week in Georgetown and on the East Coast and East Bank Demerara.
