The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation has learnt a lot from hosting the 15th annual knockout football competition, and will be making a great effort to make the 16th competition a `sweet' one.

Speaking with Stabroek Sport on New Year's Day following the completion of the 15th tournament, Kashif and Shanghai director, Kashif Muhammad, said that although the competition is relatively old there are still some areas that need to be "touched up."

He announced that, very soon, members of his team will be going to the drawing board to make sure that a competition that rivals Demerara Sugar in sweetness is held later this year.

"It is a lot of hard work. There were some mistakes along the way that we made. I was surprised that, after 15 years, we can still see something happening. However, we will be looking to correct those mistakes on our sweet 16 birthday," Muhammad said.

Muhammad declared that, although he was extremely impressed with the standard of football in the recent tournament he would leave it to the spectators to decide if the 15th competition was the best ever held.

"It will be difficult for me to say which one of the competitions was our best. We work hard to ensure that people get a good time. The people will have to answer and say which is our best effort. At this time the entire Kashif and Shanghai Organisation is very tired, but at the same time we are satisfied and elated that we have brought joy to so many people," Muhammad added.

"We thank the Almighty God for making this tournament happen how it did. Sponsorship was great, the spectators had a fantastic time, the referees did their part, and the media did a marvelous job. If it wasn't for the media and the level of coverage that they gave, this tournament couldn't have been as big and as fruitful as it is."
