U Mobile customers began paying for calls placed to Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) numbers on Thursday at noon and come Monday will be charged for calls placed to U Mobile phones.

A release from Cel*Star on Wednesday said phone cards with which calls can be placed are available at the company's retail centre in the Hand-in-Hand building in Georgetown and at U Mobile outlets around the country. These cards are available in denominations of $750, $1,000 and $2,000.

The company reminded its customers that for the first 90 days of service, each customer enjoys 300 free text messages per month. Further enquiries can be made by calling from land line 660-1000 or by U Mobile phone, 022 where customer service representatives are on hand to assist customers.

It said it was heartened by the overwhelming response to its Christmas gift to customers, which included free off-net calls to GT&T and free calls to U Mobile customers until 2005.
