Johnson crowned Most Valuable Player

SHAWN Johnson of Fruta Conquerors was again crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Kashif & Shanghai Christmas Football Festival, after the final on New Year’s Day at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden.

Johnson was first adjudged MVP in the 2001/2002 as a guest player of Netrockers who lost to Victoria Kings in the final.

With several brilliant saves in the final of 15th championship on New Year’s Day, the goalkeeper was also voted MVP of the game in which Conquerors whipped Blackheart Dennery of St Lucia 4-1, and was named Best Goalkeeper of the championship.

Teammate and captain of Conquerors Elroy Park was awarded the Best Defence Player prize, while Blackheart Dennery’s Andy Jean-Baptiste was the Best Midfielder.

Gavin Wilson of CariAir Western Tigers who scored a double hattrick against East Bank Demerara and one goal against Topp XX in the semifinals, won the Highest Goals Scorer prize with seven goals.

Andrew Mayers of Amelia’s Ward scored the Most Spectacular Goal and Shawn Arther of Eagles United the fastest, hitting the 33 seconds in the game against Pele.

Western Tigers with 11 goals were the Best Offensive team and Conquerors the Best Defensive team, conceding just two goals in the championship.

Amelia’s Ward were the Most Improved Team, while the Fair Play award went to East Demerara.
