PNCR Leader Robert Corbin hopes Guyanese will use the Christmas season to rekindle and strengthen the foundation of the Guyanese family and demonstrate in practical ways goodwill towards each other to make Guyana a place to feel at home.

Urging Guyanese as they celebrate the Christmas season with families in true Guyanese tradition eating pepperpot and drinking ginger beer, to find time to think of those who are less fortunate in the society, he said let "each of us pledge that in some small way we will do something to bring happiness to them at this time."

Among the less fortunate, he mentioned the homeless and destitute, the senior citizens who find it difficult to live on their pensions; the orphans and other needy children; the disadvantaged and the sick, especially those who are afflicted with the deadly HIV/AIDS disease and who suffer from the daily stigma and discrimination associated with it.

He said though commercialism over the years has caused many to forget the true significance of Christmas, it was a time for giving, for sharing and for expressing goodwill. Though Christian in origin, he said, its message was universal and could be embraced by people of all faiths.

Corbin also took the opportunity to wish all those who celebrate the Festival of Kwanzaa a Happy Kwanzaa.
