PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo is looking forward to all Guyanese building the spirit of the Christmas season to continue to move the country forward.

In his Christmas message, he also noted that a central theme of the birth of Jesus is hope.

The President’s message reads:

“A very Merry Christmas to all! This is the season of goodwill and generosity which are to be found in such abundance on this festive occasion.

The traditional warmth and hospitality of our people know no limits and this is in part what makes Christmas so special in Guyana.

On this special occasion, I join with the Christian community in observing the birth of Jesus Christ. A central theme of the birth is that of hope.

The birth of Christ brought hope to the world and the celebration of Christmas is one that should renew our confidence in a bright, peaceful and prosperous future.

I look forward to all of us building the spirit of the season to continue to move our country forward.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend to all the visitors to our wonderful country, wishes for a truly memorable stay.

It is pleasing to note that so many Guyanese have come home for the holidays to share in our traditional Christmas celebrations reuniting with friends and family.

I trust that you enjoy your stay in our beautiful country. We welcome all of you to Guyana.

At this time, let us not forget those whose circumstances may not be the best. Let us spare a thought for those who may have lost loved ones, those who are indigent or those incapacitated in one way or the other.

May Christmas bring tidings of peace, comfort and solace to you, as well as hope.

Once again to all Guyanese, and to all who are visiting to be part of the Guyanese Christmas, I extend on behalf of myself, my wife Varshnie, as well as the Government of Guyana, wishes for a peaceful and joyous Christmas.”
