An Exchange of Notes was signed between Guyana and China to mark the establishment of a Joint Business Development Council yesterday.

The Government of Guy-ana and the Government of the People's Republic of China signed the agreement in the main conference room of the Foreign Trade Ministry at Takuba Lodge after extensive consultations between the two countries.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, John Isaacs, in his introductory remarks noted that the exchange of notes would contribute to the enhancing of cooperation between Guyanese and Chinese businessmen.

The outgoing Chinese Ambassador Song Tao in his remarks said it would be good for businessmen on both sides because the Joint Business Development Council would further promote economic trade and development. In addition it would also support greater understanding between the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Clement Rohee added that the business council could help in the promotion of better relations between the private sectors of Guyana and China.

Chairman of the Private Sector Commission Yesu Persaud noted after the signing that he would like to see Guyana's private sector getting involved in the international market generally. And regarding China, Persaud said businesses now have to look at what can be sold to the Chinese as well as what can be obtained from them. He said Guyanese businesses would need to pursue this now or others would get there first.
