Efforts are being made to secure a house lot for the Ramdeen family, currently living in a small wood and zinc shack on a tiny plot close to the Demerara River at Vive La Force, West Bank Demerara.

Stabroek News was informed that Rohan Hanoman and Gita Ramdeen, parents of nine children, met officials from the Ministry of Human Services last week at which time the matter was advanced. Stabroek News was told that the ministry has promised to work along with the Ministry of Housing to help secure the house lot for the family.

Food For the Poor Guyana Inc has promised to build a house for the family once the land is secured.

The plight of the Ramdeens came to light two weeks ago when this newspaper found five of the children alone in the shack fending for themselves; their parents had gone job-hunting in Linden.

Since then the children's parents have returned to their West Bank Demerara home, while citizens have showered the children with food stuff and other items. There has also been a number of pledges from persons both locally and overseas.

Anyone wishing to make donation to the family can contact Rita Mohan at Koker Top Patentia East, WBD or on telephone number 267-2566.
