Deplorable roads and the high cost of transportation were some of the issues raised when PNCR Leader Robert Corbin recently took his countrywide outreach exercise to Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni).

A PNCR press release said Central Executive Committee Member Amna Ally; Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) representative Tiriana Bisnauth; Central Executive Member George Moore; Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford and Regional MP Judith David accompanied Corbin on the exercise that was carried out last Wednesday.

During the visit the party visited the one-to five-mile areas on the Bartica/Potaro Road and discussed several issues of concern with residents in these areas.

The residents also spoke of the failure of the Ministry of Housing and Water to distribute titles as promised and the absence of infrastructure in the new housing area, which prevented persons from erecting their homes.

The release said young people were concerned about the absence of recreational facilities and requested assistance in identifying a suitable playground in the area.

Regional Chairman Bradford told residents that the delay in carrying out repair works to the road was caused by the late passage of the National Budget and a further delay because funds were released after the rainy season had begun. He explained that the Region was stockpiling building materials to commence work when the rainy season was over.

He warned residents not to expect too much because the limited funds approved by Central Government were inadequate for the present needs.
