Two senior officials in the Ministry of Education have been selected from a number of applicants for training in China in computer network applied technology and computer software technology.

Surendra Persaud and Paul Persaud will be pursuing the courses which Education Minister Dr Henry Jeffrey described as being of major importance to the ministry in its strategic plan for the dissemination of information technology in Guyana, according to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA).

The Exchange of Notes for the participation of the two officials at the 2004 Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries Training Courses was signed on Monday by Minister Jeffrey and China's Ambassador to Guyana Song Tao.

In thanking China for the assistance, Jeffrey recalled similar offers which had provided this country with need skills. The Chinese ambassador noted earlier that more than 35 Guyanese had been trained in various disciplines in China and they had returned to become experts in their fields and to contribute to the country's economic development, GINA added.
