The police have detained the Sophia man and his wife who allegedly beat and wounded 13-year-old Ewart Joseph last Tuesday.

A source told Kaieteur News that early yesterday morning the man and his wife were seen being led away from the home by ranks of the Guyana Police Force.

The source said that since the night of the incident the couple appeared to have gone into hiding.

“Since the thing happen the man and he wife doesn’t sleep home and it look like them come home to sleep Wednesday night and early Thursday morning de police come and carry them to de station,” the source said.

In a previous report it was stated that it was the man who had beaten the child. However, Kaieteur News understands that the wife also helped her husband beat the lad.

The alleged beating stemmed from an allegation that the lad sexually molested the couple’s six-year-old daughter.

Meanwhile, the lad has been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
