Several city streets nearly impassable for years now are to be repaired under an urban development programme.

These include Bent Street between Haley Street and Louisa Row, Hadfield Street between Camp Street and Louisa Row, John Street between Brickdam and D'Urban Street and Lombard Street between Broad Street and the National Printers.

These works are expected to fall under the jurisdiction of the Mayor and City Council.

Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon on Thursday announced that Cabinet at its session earlier in the day had given its no objection to a contract valued at $163M for the works.

Cabinet also approved a contract for $14.4M for the construction of an all-weather road at Naamryck, East Bank Essequibo under the Poor Rural Communities Project.

A contract valued at $34.5M for the rehabilitation of the former Guyana National Engineering Corporation building at Linden to accommodate a business centre as part of the Linden Economic Advancement Programme (LEAP) also received Cabinet's no-objection.
