Justice BS Roy yesterday granted leave for attorney-at-law Hukumchand, appearing on behalf of city businessman, Reeaz Khan, to file an affidavit in answer to the contempt proceedings against him.

Attorney Nigel Hughes recently filed contempt proceedings against the businessman, who is involved in a controversial sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl, seeking to have him [Khan] cited for allegedly flouting a May 20 High Court order handed down by Justice Roy.

Hughes filed the proceedings on behalf of Bibi Shameeza Hamid, the mother of the 13-year-old, claiming that Khan had on separate occasions gone to her home and unlawfully abducted her daughter despite a High Court order directing him to refrain from having any form of contact with the child.

The matter is scheduled to resume in the High Court on June 28.
