National men's champion Sydney Christophe rediscovered his best form to play un-beaten in the men's division while Michelle John produced a 4-1 record to top the field in the women's division as the Guyana Table Tennis Association held its first set of trials at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Saturday in preparation for the Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships scheduled for August 1st -9th in Trinidad & Tobago.

The matches, witnessed by Chinese Coach Zhou Ping, saw rising star Matthew Khan finishing a close second place with 8 wins, and one loss .His only loss came at the hands of Christophe who beat him 3-2 in a seesaw encounter to end with a perfect 9-0 score.

Third place went to Christopher Franklin (6-3), while Paul Meusa finished fourth on (5-4). Meusa was a bit unfortunate not to have finished one place higher since having beaten Franklin, he was forced to forfeit his final match due to muscle spasms and cramps against Raymond Baksh whom he was leading 2-0.

Meusa was involved in a highly entertaining game against Matthew Khan which produced high quality forehand and backhand counter-loops before Khan prevailed in a tough five-setter.

Orin Hickerson was fifth with (5-4), Michael Waithe sixth (4-5), Jonathon Sankar seventh (3-6), Raymond Baksh eighth (3-6), Marlon Washington ninth (1-8) and Andrew Daly tenth (1-8) completing the line-up in the men division.

Notable absentees were Godfrey Munroe and Idi Lewis.

The women's division was not so straightforward as there was a three way tie for second spot between Bertnell Richards, Jody Ann Blake and Vida Moore who all finished with a 3-2 aggregate.

In the end Richards got the nod by a superior game difference while Blake was third and Moore fourth.

In fifth position was Delicia Cummings (2-3), while Rhonda Farley finished in the cellar having no wins.

The next set of trials is scheduled for Saturday at the same venue.
