A new wireless area network system has been installed at all of the Guyana Revenue Authority's (GRA) ports of entry and departments countrywide and will be in operation by Monday, a Government Information Agency (GINA) release said.

The new system, a Customs Entry Software - ASYCUDA, aims to enable more efficient sharing and gathering of data on all imports and exports. The central processing unit is located at Customs House on Main Street.

As a result of the wireless system, GINA said, cameras have already been mounted at 13 of the sub-offices of GRA, including all wharves and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

The system would facilitate effective transfer of data in real time and each building has a wireless radio that connects it to the main frame.

Broad Band Inc. at First and Albert streets is responsible for installing the connection which is in keeping with the revenue collecting authority's structural reform.

Brian Yong of Broad Band Inc. said the system is secure as it has five levels of security.

The company has just completed installation after six weeks of work.
