Guyana Water Inc (GWI) says unaccounted for water is still around 70% most of which is due to customer wastage or leaking pipelines.

According to a release from GWI, while it is committed to ensuring that this process is a success, cooperation from customers is required in ensuring that all taps are kept closed when not in use.

Meanwhile, the company said since it commenced the 24-hour water supply from the Better Hope and Mon Repos water treatment plants, GWI has found that the Better Hope service has been successful.

However, a few difficulties have been experienced within the Mon Repos area and a number of customers may have experienced a dip in the level of service to their home.

Engineers from GWI who have been specially tasked with overseeing the success of the trial period have concluded that the dip in service levels is due to the large demand in the Mon Repos area.

The release added that work will continue in the area with the view of improving service levels and customers are reminded that leaks and broken pipelines can be reported on telephone number 223-7263.
