Streetlights are to be installed along the public road from Georgetown to Timehri.

The Ministry of Public Works and Communication has invited bids for the project which is to be funded from Inter-American Development Bank financing under the Main Roads Rehabilitation Programme Phase ll-Road Safety.

The Public Relations Office of the ministry was unable to disclose the amount of the financing involved.

Assistant Regional Executive Officer of Region Four Trevor Benn was upbeat about the proposed project, which he said should boost the image of Guyana since this road offers visitors their first impression of the country.

The acting Chairman of the Golden Grove/Diamond Place Neighbourhood Democratic Council Patrick Ashford Roberts said such a development could improve the roadway in terms of security for residents while lowering accidents.

The Chairman noted that areas such as Land of Canaan, Hope, Friendship, Garden of Eden, Soesdyke and the road going into Mocha were badly in need of street lights.
