Police have carried out ballistic tests on the gun that belonged to suspected hitman Axel Williams, but the results have been inconclusive.

Police spokesperson John Sauers confirmed on Tuesday that tests were done on the gun, which were thus far inconclusive and more tests are still to be done.

Ballistic tests could either definitely link Williams with some of the unsolved murders that have been credited to him or clear him. He had been implicated in a number of abduction/murders over the last two years, when he allegedly worked as a member of a group created to hunt criminals.

Williams was licensed to use a 9mm pistol at the time of his death in December last year, a weapon usually approved to businessmen involved in high-risk ventures. Several spent shells of various calibre were recovered at scenes for crimes which are still unsolved.

Sauers said procedure prescribes that ballistic tests be conducted on all weapons retrieved by police to determine whether they were ever used in any unsolved crimes.

Less than a year after he shot and killed a man over $20, Williams was given approval for an upgrade by then police commissioner Floyd McDonald on the assent of Home Affairs Minister Ronald Gajraj.
