All faiths can flourish

The PPP/C government will continue to respect the teachings of all religious faiths, so the country can flourish and prosper in peace and happiness, says President Bharrat Jagdeo in his Youman Nabi message.

"On behalf of my Government I would like to extend to the Guyanese community especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, sincere greetings on the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad."

Teachings relevant today

And in its Youman Nabi greeting the PPP said the Holy Prophet was exemplary through his preaching of unity and brotherhood of man. He was an advocate of peace, tranquility and justice.

The PPP release said the Holy Prophet's teaching is most needed in a world of conflict especially in the Middle East, the birth place of the Holy Prophet with wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and a great national liberation struggle by the Palestinians.

"As we reflect on the noble life of the Holy Prophet let us resolve to work for peace, progress and a free and just society."
