Several exhibitions have been planned by the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) for the month of May as part of its 64th anniversary celebrations.

According to a release, the exhibitions begin today from 10 am outside the Stabroek Market or Demico House area.

Tomorrow, lifters will take their weights to the Seawalls for another exhibition from 4 pm to 6 pm. Another such activity is planned for the pavement outside the Parika Branch of the National Bank of Industry and Commerce on May 8 with the alternative venue being the Parika Stelling.

Exhibition action returns to the Georgetown Seawalls on May 9 from 4 pm to 6 pm also. A youth seminar is billed for May 15 at Olympic House, Peter Rose and Church Streets beginning at 1 pm. On the same day, an exhibition is planned for outside Bounty Farm, Regent Street beginning at 10 am.

A coaches' seminar is also on the cards, and this will be held at Olympic House on May 22. Other venues that have been identified for exhibitions are the pavements outside Guyana Stores and NBIC, Linden branch. On May 30, the association will wrap up its activities with the staging of its national championships, billed for the Blairmont Community Centre ground, beginning at noon.

Meanwhile, the association recently named a four-member team to represent Guyana at the Simon Bolivar Invitational Tournament in San Carlos, Venezuela from June 8 to 13. This will be the first time that Guyana will be attending this event and the team is expected to leave Guyana on June 5. The four are Bojhnarine Persaud and Fazim Abdool of Hardcore Gym, Berbice, Kevin Williams of True Foundation Gym, Georgetown and Quason Boodie of Barims Gym Tuschen Village, West Bank Demerara.
