The Iranian ambassador to Venezuela and four Iranian police officials arrived in Guyana on Sunday night to discuss with local officials the abduction of Iranian cleric Mohammad Hassan Ebrahimi.

Stabroek News understands that the ambassador and the other officials met Home Affairs Minister Ronald Gajraj, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rudy Insanally and Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Gail Teixeira.

The group has been briefed on every aspect of local investigations into Ebrahimi's kidnapping and was also scheduled to meet Police Commissioner Winston Felix later yesterday.

Ebrahimi, the director of the International Islamic College for Advanced Studies at 42B United Nations Place, Brickdam, was kidnapped on April 2 by two gunmen who also shot and injured the Administrator of the institution, Raymond Halley.

Authorities, including the recently trained anti-kidnapping squad have been unable to locate Ebrahimi whose wife, Shahnaz Ansari, is expecting to deliver the couple's first child very soon.
