Regional one-day champions Guyana will be looking to put up a good showing against the touring England cricketers when their limited-overs match takes place today at the Everest Cricket Club ground.

According to coach Albert Smith, the Guyana team, which won last year's Red Stripe Bowl tournament will be looking to put up a spirited performance befitting of their status in one-day games which precedes the West Indies versus England one-day series.

England have already won the Test series by a 3-0 score with the fourth test match in Antigua which ended earlier this week being drawn.

Smith feels that the match will serve as a golden opportunity for the youngsters in the squad some of whom will be having their first taste of international cricket to put their best foot forward.

"They should make full use of this opportunity," said Smith.

Smith said despite the fact that England got the better of the West Indies in the test series, cricket is an uncertain game and whichever team plays better on the day can win.

The Guyana team will be led by Shivnarine Chanderpaul who missed the fourth test but has been recalled to the West Indies team for the one-dayers. The Guyana team had a lengthy net session yesterday.

""I welcome Chanderpaul's presence on the team, " Smith said. "he seemed very enthusiastic at yesterday's net sessions and did a wonderful job in motivating the rest of the players," the Guyana coach added.

The England team was expected in Guyana last evening along with some members of the West Indies team.
