Consumer prices edge higher

Increased prices for food, in particular fruit (up 15.3%) sent the Consumer Price Index up a further .2% in February.
On an annual basis, comparing February 2003 to February 2004, the index rose by 5.1%
The surge in fruit prices was balanced by declines in meat, fish and eggs by 1.7% and vegetable and vegetable products by 2.1% for an overall increase in food of .3%
According to Bureau of Statistics information, marginal increases were recorded in the housing, furniture and household service groups of .1%
