POLICE were last night questioning a 48-year-old Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, resident after two nine-year-old girls, who attend lessons at his home alleged that he fondled them.

Both incidents allegedly occurred yesterday afternoon.

Up to press time, the girls and their parents were still giving statements to the police at the Providence Police Station. A source identified the alleged culprit as a cart man who had won a lotto prize about a year ago.

A relative reportedly keeps lessons in a bottom flat at the man’s house.

Sources said that one of the girls alleged that she was passing the suspect’s house to buy chicken foot and souse for her father when the suspect saw her passing and called her.

She alleged that the man took her into his kitchen where he kissed her. The girl said that she managed to free herself from the man’s arms and run from the house.

The other girl, who is also nine, alleged that she went to the man’s house to pay her lessons fees when he pulled her into a garage. She claimed that he then kissed her and fondled her privates.

Kaieteur News understands that the scandal broke after the first pupil told her mother that she no longer wanted to attend lessons at the man’s house.

After she was pressed for a reason, the child made the allegation against the suspect.

This newspaper was told that while the first girl and her parents were being interviewed at the Providence Police Station, the second girl and her parents arrived to make similar allegations against the man.

While investigations are in the preliminary stage, police sources are of the view that the suspect will be charged.
