GUYANA’S ‘Gold Squad’ added seven more medals to their tally at the end of the second of final day of the Trinidad & Tobago National Track and Field Championships staged at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain.

There were three gold medal performances and two silver and two bronze finish adding to the four medals secured on the first day, Saturday, when the team claimed one gold, two silvers and one bronze medal-to give a tally of eleven.

Teon Roberts won his second gold medal at the games with victory in the Under 17 Boys 3000m, while Ryan Reid picked up a bronze medal in the Under-17 boys 200m sprint and Selwyn McPherson bronze in the shot put in the same division.

In the Under-20 division, Royston Ross claimed gold in shot put and silver in discus, while team member Cleon Coppin won the discus event and then claimed silver in the shot put.

On Saturday, Roberts had won the Under-17 Boys 1500m, while Jermaine Pilgrim finished second in the Boys Under-20 1500m, with McPherson placing second in the Under-17 discus and third in javelin.

Reid was the only sprinter to claim a medal at the games.

The team was expected in last evening under manager Pamela Phillips.

The Amateur Athletics Association (AAA) selected the team from a junior squad dubbed ‘The Gold Squad’ to represent Guyana at regional junior tournaments that the association is invited to and win gold medals.

The squad was formed some three years ago and included athletes such as Tai Payne, Keith Roberts and Michelle Vaughn among others.
