RAMNARESH Sarwan's unbeaten double century put the West Indies on top on day three of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park, Jamaica yesterday.

His 261 was the highpoint of their score of 559-4 declared, and at stumps Bangladesh had reached 66-3 in their second innings.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul also weighed in with 101 as their stand of 262 gave the home side a 275-run first innings lead.

A brace of wickets for Pedro Collins and one for Tino Best had Bangladesh struggling at the close of play.

The day had begun encouragingly for Bangladesh when nightwatchman Best was caught behind off Tapash Basiya with only three runs added to the overnight total, but after that it was one-way traffic.

Sarwan hit 32 boundaries as he took nine and a half hours to compile the highest score of his first class career.

Chanderpaul was slower to get going, but once he found his stride he did his bit to entertain the crowd, notching 11 boundaries off 190 balls on his way to his tenth Test century.

No sooner had he reached the landmark than Brian Lara declared to give his bowlers a chance to make inroads into the Bangladesh batsmen, which they did in some style.

Hannan Sarkar fell to Collins lbw for 10, before Dwayne Smith caught Javed Omar at short leg off the bowling of Best.

When Rajin Saleh became Collins' second victim, the Bangladesh score was 34-3 and they looked on course for another hiding.

But captain Habibul Bashar's knock of 28 restored some pride and prevented any more damage being done. (BBC Sport).
