THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has applauded President Bharrat Jagdeo for appointing a Commission of Inquiry into the death squad allegations against the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Ronald Gajraj.

In a release to the media yesterday, the CIOG noted that Islam advocates the elimination of wrongdoing in every form and ascertainment of the truth.

“We support the appointment of our Muslim brother, Major General Retired, Norman Mc Lean, and also support the other members of the commission who are well suited for this task. It is our view that this Inquiry will impartially and fairly look into the allegations made against the Minister.

“It is our wish also, that a Commission of Inquiry will soon be set up to look into the problems during the recent years on the lower East Coast of Demerara where there was a total breakdown of law and order.

We wish the members of the Commission Allah’s help in an early completion of their task, the organisation said.
