PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) - A remarkable all-round performance from Grenada’s Lydia Edgar highlighted the last day of preliminary matches in the West Indies Women’s Cricket Federation championship yesterday when Trinidad & Tobago, St Lucia and the Grenadians all posted wins.

At Preysal: Edgar captured five wickets for 33 runs from 10 overs and hit the top score of 74 to lead Grenada to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Guyana and third place in the preliminary standings.

Sent in to bat, Guyana were dismissed for 128 in 48 overs, despite Indomattie Goordial’s 54, and then saw the Grenadians reach the target in the 45th over thanks to Edgar’s belligerent knock.

At Barataria Oval: Dethroned champions and hosts Trinidad & Tobago rolled over Jamaica by eight wickets.

Jamaica, sent in to bat, were restricted to 131 for five from their allotment of 50 overs and T&T reached their target with 14 overs to spare thanks to 63 not out from Nelly Williams and 40 not out from Nita Naipaulsingh.

At Gilbert Park: St Lucia backed up a strong batting performance with purposeful bowling to complete a 78-run win over Barbados.

Choosing to bat, the St Lucians posted the challenging total of 264 for three from their 50 overs with Doris Francis hitting the top score of 91 not out and Nadine George scoring 76. The two added 129 for the second wicket.

The teams now prepare for the knockout competition beginning tomorrow.
