A MISS Guyana Universe queen has never looked more stunning in national costume. Odessa Phillips does, and she definitely will turn heads at the carnival street parade in Quito, Ecuador.

The 21-year-old, who graduates this November with a degree in law, leaves this evening for Ecuador, where she will compete with 80 other national beauties on June 1 for the Miss Universe title.

Her costume, put together by top local designer Derek Moore, captures the Guyanese Amerindian heritage, our wildlife and natural resources. The lively colours used are meant to showcase the human spirit of Guyanese - one of vibrant unity.

Phillips is having her second go at an international stage, having represented Guyana at the 2002 Miss World pageant in Nigeria/London. (NM)
