ST JOHN'S, Antigua, (CMC) - West Indies captain Brian Lara, still bothered by a damaged little finger, will miss the first two games in the Cable & Wireless One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh this weekend.

Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the West Indies team in the first two games against touring Bangladesh in St Vincent on Saturday and Sunday, as Lara takes more time to recover from his injury.

Lara, who reclaimed the individual world batting record with an unbeaten 400 against England last month, received a further knock to his damaged finger during the seventh ODI against England in Barbados last Wednesday.

“Bearing in mind the hectic schedule ahead for the West Indies, Lara will sit out the first two games as a precautionary measure,” the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced in a release late Tuesday.

Lara’s finger was originally injured in March during the first Cable and Wireless Test match against England at Sabina Park in Jamaica and caused him to miss the opening ODI against England in Guyana in April.

West Indies squad for the first two matches: Ramnaresh Sarwan (captain), Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Powell, Sylvester Joseph, Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo, Ridley Jacobs, Ian Bradshaw, Ravi Rampaul, Fidel Edwards, Tino Best.
